Five Mt. Moiwa Trail Courses

The Moiwa Primeval Forest, which has been designated as a national natural monument, is a treasure trove of nature.

For those who don’t usually go trekking in the mountains, you could use the Ropeway and Mini Cable Car to go up the mountain, and then use the trekking course to go down while enjoying the natural surroundings.

Mt. Moiwa is a mountain that is protected as a primeval forest, so you can see small animals such as squirrels and Ezo red foxes, as well as wild birds, insects, plants, trees and more up close, making it a fun place for everyone from children to the elderly.

Jikeikai Byoin Mae Course

DistanceApproximately 2.9km
CourseTrailhead → (1.8km) → Uma no Se Ridge → (1.1km) → Summit
FeaturesThis is the most popular course. At the entrance, there are not only maps, but also facilities such as restrooms, drinking fountains, and washing areas. The path is almost entirely maintained, so even beginners can climb the mountain with ease.
TransportationFrom Maruyama Koen Station on the Tozai Subway Line, take the JR Bus Junkan Maru 10/11 Ropeway Line and get off at Jikeikai-mae.
The trailhead is a 2-minute walk away.

Asahiyama Memorial Park Course

DistanceApproximately 4.0 km
CourseTrailhead→(2.4km)→T6 junction→(0.5km)→Uma no Se Ridge→(1.1km)→Summit
FeaturesThere is a large parking lot on the left side of the entrance to Asahiyama Memorial Park, and the trailhead is next to it. The trail is relatively undulating, and it joins the Jikeikai Byoin Mae Course partway through.
TransportationFrom Maruyama Koen Station on the Tozai Subway Line, take the JR Bus Maru 13 Asahiyama Koen Line and get off at Asahiyama Koen-mae.
The trailhead is a 2-minute walk away.

Mt. Moiwa Ski Resort Course

DistanceApproximately 2.5km
CourseTrailhead → (2.5km) → Summit
FeaturesThis course, which uses the base of Mt. Moiwa Ski Resort as its starting point, passes through a brightly lit forest. Along the way, you will pass by a ski slope and be able to see the Usagidaira Course, a large bowl-shaped slope that is difficult for advanced skiers.
TransportationFrom the JR Sapporo Station Bus Terminal, take the Jotetsu Bus Minami 55 Moiwa Line and get off at Minami 34 Jo Nishi 11 Chome.
It is a 20-minute walk to the entrance of the Shimin Ski Resort trail.

Kobayashi Pass Course

DistanceApproximately 4.5km
CourseTrailhead→(2.9km)→T6 junction→(0.5km)→Uma no Se Ridge→(1.1km)→Summit
FeaturesThis course, which starts at the Kobayashi Pass on the road connecting Nishino and Makomanai, is popular as a place where you can see many plants such as violets and grapes, and the autumn leaves are a sight to behold. Along the way, it joins the Jikeikai Byoin Mae Course.
TransportationFrom Makomanai Station on the Namboku Subway Line, take the Jotetsu Bus Minami 97 Kitanosawa Line and get off at Sansui Danchi Mae.
It’s a 23-minute walk to the trailhead.

Kitanosawa Course

DistanceApproximately 2.4km
CourseTrailhead→(1.3km)→Uma no Se Ridge→(1.1km)→Summit
FeaturesThis is the shortest of the five courses, and although it is narrow, it is a relatively easy path to walk.
It is a true mountain path, with a width that allows one adult to walk along it.
TransportationFrom Makomanai Station on the Namboku Subway Line, take the Jotetsu Bus Minami 97 Kitanosawa Line and get off at Kitanosawa Kaikan-mae.
It’s a 23-minute walk to the trailhead.
