The nature of Mt. Moiwa is a place where famous scholars were fostered and nurtured

As the city of Sapporo was developed during the Meiji era (1868-1912), and precious primeval forests were lost in various places, the Mt. Moiwa Primeval Forest was designated as the first natural monument in Hokkaido on March 3, 1921. Since then, it has become a place for local research, and from here, famous botanists and entomologists have emerged. It also serves as a place for the people of Sapporo to relax and learn.

Mt. Moiwa, which aims to promote nature-friendly tourism and coexistence with nature, has developed a Nature Education Path with the aim of making it ideal for children to learn about the importance of nature through coming into contact with it. The trail can also be used for school excursions, field trips and school trips.

Nature Education Path (Chufuku Station – Sancho Station)

There is a paved walking trail about 600 meters long between Moiwa Chufuku Station and Moiwa Sancho Station. It is easier to walk on than the mountain trail, and there are also rest areas, so anyone can enjoy a stroll while admiring the scenery (about a 15-minute walk).

Please note that the path is not lit at night, so it is not possible to walk along it.

Mt. Moiwa is a favorite spot among Sapporo residents.

It is full of negative ions so you can look forward to meeting a variety of natural landscapes during your journey.

Mountain climbing has a very positive effect on your physical and mental health, including providing you with fresh air, wonderful scenery, a sense of tranquility away from the hustle and bustle of the city, and a way to get some exercise if you’re lacking in that department. From children to adults, many people in Sapporo enjoy climbing Mt. Moiwa, which is just 20 minutes from the center of the city and allows you to experience nature up close.
